Summer Term 2025- Week 3
THE SYMMETRY OF BUTTERFLIES (09.05.2025)
*STARS OF THE WEEK*
***I am active and imaginative….***
Ambrose - You really come into your own in P.E. when we get the benches out. You were encouraged to move along the benches in different ways and your were brilliant at it. Finding three differnt ways to move on just one bench, so imaginative - Rebecca and Stevie were very impressed!
Mabel - You also really enjoyed the benches in P.E., showing how much confidence you have gained in your first few weeks at Pebbles. You walked along the benches with no adult assistance. You are also being very active and independent in the garden, well done!
Clover - The teacher's loved your description of the cornflour and water - you said it was like 'smiley snail dribble' brilliant descriptive words for one so young!
Dear Parents,
What a lovely outdoor week we have had. The weather has been perfect - not really hot enough for the need of sun tan lotion and hats but warm enough to not need coats. So we have spent lots of time out and about. Although we didn't see any buterflies this week, typically we had seen some last week when we weren't looking for them!
The children created symmetrical butterflies using two different methods - either painting string and then pulling it through a piece of butterfly shaped paper that was folded in two or painting one butterfly wing and then folding the other one down on top and rubbing to create the same pattern on both sides. They look great on the Pebbles windows and helped the older children start to understand the concept of symmetry.
I am afraid the birds have not been kind to us this week and have left lots of unwanted messages on the play equipment outside. Stevie and the children have been scrubbing these messages away, so it is all much clearer. We have also learnt not to leave equipment under the trees!
Next week we will continue our mini-beast theme by continuing to look for and name butterflies but the craft and number activities will be based on ladybirds. The children love finding ladybirds and putting them on a leave for safety. We will read 'The bad-tempered ladybird' which will introduce reading clock times to the older children.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Pebbles team.
